5 Ways to Make Extra Money From Home

6173031206_4862ce1d1dWhen you are a one income family, every extra penny helps. A few extra dollars here and there can help with the grocery bill or even the buy a little something extra for you or your kids. But with a busy schedule, it can be a little difficult to make that extra money. Here are 5 ways to help make a little extra money in your spare time.

  1. Take online surveys. I know. This one gets thrown around a lot and it’s notorious for scams, but there are some legit ones out there. They are definitely not get rich quick opportunities, but they are good for a few extra bucks each month. I particularly like PaidViewpoint and InstantCashSweepstakes. And yes, those are both my referral links so I do get bonuses if you sign up. Both are super easy to use and don’t ask for a ridiculous amount of personal information.
  2. Sell crafts. If you can sew, knit, crochet, do woodwork, make jewelry or any other craft-type service, you can sell your wares online.  Etsy.com is probably the best known, and most used crafty website. This route does require a little bit of startup funds; your supplies and the Etsy site fees are probably the biggest ones you will face.
  3. Start a freelance business. Can you write? Take photos? Make cakes? Landscape the heck out of a yard? If you have a marketable skill, you can start a freelance business. You can easily start your own website to show potential clients your samples, and start marketing and sharing your website where ever and whenever you can.
  4. Monetize your blog. Do you already have a blog to document your everyday adventures? Use it to generate a little extra money by adding Google Adsense ads or Amazon Associates ads to your website. Simply sign up for an account, get the html code for the ad, and paste it into your widgets.
  5. Tutor. Do you have a skill or deep knowledge that you could share? Maybe you’re good at math. Or you play a mean tune on the piano. Market yourself as an afterschool tutor. You can have students come to your home, or if you can break away from your home, meet them elsewhere. Post ads on Craigslist or on your local market bulletin board. If you aren’t keen on tutoring locally, you can tutor online. This route does require a video cam and a quiet home, and let’s face it; if you’re a parent you probably don’t have the second one.

A few extra dollars here and there can be beneficial for a one income family. Try any of these 5 ideas to help you make extra money from home and in your spare time.

  1. I happen to do two of those, take surveys and monetize blog. Though, I just removed my previous ads recently because I’m planning to apply for an Adsense account.

  2. Although there are many ways of making money, you have to be careful to not jump into anything that sounds too good to be true. I like the idea of tutoring and many bloggers have turned their blogs into gold mines by offering training to anyone wanting help. That is where you can make a marginal income helping others. This could lead to referral service and loyal followers. Good tips Corinne.

    • very true Sonia, there are a ton of scams out there. Thanks for the tip on offering training! that’s a great way to make money off a blog.

  3. Great list of ideas Corinne!

One thing for sure is you can always find something to do from home.

I started out taking surveys and made about $200 a month. It wasn’t much but it helped take care of some of the smaller bills. My favorites were the free products! 🙂

Right now I’m focusing on my blog and trying to monetize it…man, it’s been challenging let me tell you but I wouldn’t trade it for the world!

Great list Corinne, thanks for putting it together! Hope you’re having a great week!

  4. Those are great suggestions. And you are so right, every extra penny helps. I have never been successful with surveys. I tried swagbucks but quickly got bored. If I was creative I would be on Etsy for sure. That site has grown leaps and bounds over the years, and some people make excellent money on there.

    • You’re right about Etsy. The stuff that sells on there is amazing! I sometimes wish I had enough talent to sell something crafty. But alas, I really really don’t LOL.

  5. Sonia above makes a good point. I have seen many blogs that have done very well offering help, mentorship, and training for specific ideas and classes.

If you can do that, and monetize your blog with a little advertising, well I believe you can pretty well. Just I give credit to the guys and gals who can do that, as the time to get it all set up and moving has to huge.

  6. Your style is unique in comparison to other folks I
have read stuff from. Many thanks for posting when you have the opportunity, Guess I’ll just book mark this site.
